Long gone are the days of emerald cities and yellow brick roads. In this dark re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy Gale is now an elderly woman, broken by years of paranormal entanglement with a mystical realm, which has now echoed down to her only living relative, Emily, who is being called to settle unfinished business in this terrifying world of Oz.

When a young IRA volunteer stumbles upon an injured British Soldier in the woods near Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland, he is faced with the ultimate decision. Take a man’s life, proving his worth to his new family, or suffer the consequences. Blue Skies is loosely based on the Warrenpoint ambush, a guerrilla attack by the Provisional Irish Republican Army, that took place on the 27th of August 1979 where 18 British soldiers were killed with over 20 wounded. Directed by Sador Zerie and Ben Hands, from a screenplay written by the duo, Blue Skies stars Darren Tassell (“Fixed”) and newcomer Josh Hands with support from Anthony L. Wakefield and Josef Mühne. The film is produced by Ben Hands and Sador Zerie, with Nicholas David Lean as an executive producer. Behind the scenes, Hands and Zerie reteamed with director of photography Nuno Magalhães and 1st assistant camera Jordan Poon. Blue Skies also sees the return of 1st assistant director Ethan Cartwright who’s worked on productions with Director Sador Zerie previously. In 2021, we talked with queer beings from across the UK, US and Africa to reflect on what it means to be Black and Queer, how they feel (mis)represented by global media and how they feel (mis)treated within the Arts & Culture sector. In 2022, using insights gathered from these discussions, we created three themes and invited eight Black, Queer artists to respond through their practice. After almost 5 years of being left as an unfinished edit due to other commitments such as University, work and other film projects, 'Scavengers' has been finally completed. However, at the time of this upload, the COVID-19 pandemic is front and center, and is having a significant impact on everybody. Due to this, we will be holding off releasing 'Scavengers' for just a little while longer as we don't want the release of the film to be so fleeting, nor for the hard work and generously given time that the cast and crew offered to be overshadowed by a poorly timed release. 'Scavengers' will also see the final on-screen performance of our friend Josef Duncan, who sadly passed away in September 2019, and will be dedicated to his memory.
